Out of Area Adoptions?

The CWDF does approve out of area adoptions for most of our dogs. The basic adoption process is the same, out of area adopters must submit an application on-line, undergo a brief 10-15 minute phone interview, and meet the dog(s) they are interested in adopting in person. The CWDF does not adopt dogs out sight unseen, the adopter must meet the dog in person.

If approved, The CWDF will help coordinate the adopted dog's travel.

Please note:
Adopter will be notified of exact costs and is responsible for ALL travel expenses, these may include but are not limited to:
  • Airline Fees (usually between $250-$350 for one-way flight)
  • Cost of airline-approved travel crate ($40-$100)
  • Mileage reimbursement at current government rate
Adoption contract requires that adopter also agree to return adopted animal to CWDF should it not work out for any reason at any time. Adopter is solely responsible for all return travel expenses (cost of Airline travel, crate, etc) incurred, though CWDF will assist in arranging return travel. Adopter must agree to coordinate with CWDF for return, and ship animal on a mutually agreeable time and date. Out of area adopters will be required to house adopted animal (or board them at their own expense) while return is arranged.

Because of the added expense of adopting an animal out of area, the CWDF Adoption Coordinators take extra care and time to ensure that the animal you're interested in will be a perfect match. Please trust their experience and opinion if they do not approve placement, as they have the animal's best interest in mind and may feel a different dog is a more suitable match with a greater likelihood of success.
