Oslo, Male 11 month old, Belgian Malinois

Oslo is a very handsome 11 month old neutered male Malinois, rescued at the last minute in September 2012 from a Los Angeles shelter where he was scheduled for euthanasia.
Oslo (or "Ozzie") clearly hadn't been a house dog in his previous home and everyday things like the vacuum running or toilet flushing were new to him. He was very underweight and generally in poor condition, but is now healthy and has settled in nicely. He loves nothing more than sleeping next to the bed (or in it if you let him!) or chewing his Nylabone on his favorite rug.
Ozzie was reactive with other dogs and new people when he first came to his foster home but has gained some much needed manners and confidence, which allows him to approach new dogs and people in a quiet and calm manner. He joins his foster mom and Malinois foster brother on daily off-leash hikes on a crowded trail and has excellent recall even under distraction.
Ozzie walks well on leash with a gentle-leader headcollar, is learning basic obedience commands in French (we find French commands always sound pleasant and upbeat), and is EXTREMELY food and praise motivated, making him very easy to train despite his typical "teenage" lack of focal duration.
He enjoys his crate, goes in willingly and is quiet while crated. He is also house trained and is not an inappropriate chewer. He is good with large/small dogs and puppies, untested with cats but would likely be ok if properly introduced to a dog-savvy feline.
Ozzie is available to an experienced, working dog savvy, active pet or sport home. He has little tug or prey drive to speak of, but may be a fun bite sport dog with proper confidence and drive building. This boy is sugary sweet and likes to "hug" and wrap his paws around your neck if you let him, he's a major leaner and wants to be as close to "his" person as possible. His fairly soft temperament might make him a good starter Malinois for an active working dog savvy person, as he's active and fun but isn't over the top like some Mals are, and he is easy to have around.
Like all our dogs, Oslo is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, licensed, de-wormed, and on flea/tick control. He is around 73lbs.
His adoption fee is $290 to help offset expenses incurred by his rescue.
Please fill out an adoption application if you'd like to meet this special boy, he's an amazing dog and will make the right family very happy!
